The All New Ka-Blam Message Center
Officially, it's still in Beta ... but the All New Ka-Blam Message Center is here!! The Ka-Blam Message Center is your direct line to the staff of Ka-Blam! The Message Center is designed specifically to handle communication regarding your Ka-Blam orders. By logging into your Ka-Blam account and clicking the My Info button you can send messages directly to the Ka-Blam staff. Messages regarding a specific order are automatically tagged and attached DIRECTLY to that order. In this way every time the Ka-Blam staff looks at your order from our admin panel or our administrative queue your messages will be seen. You may send a message regarding ANY order regardless of the order status -- shipped, unshipped, etc. You may also direct general printing questions not related to any specific order to us via the Message Center. Effective immediately we're phasing out our contact email. We did our best to protect the email address, but it's become so SPAM infected and unwieldy as to be too difficult to continue to manage. If you've tried to contact us recently (or even not so recently) via our email address and received no response 1.) I apologize and 2.) please redirect your query to the Message Center and we'll get you an answer to your query pronto. The Message Center is one of the most exciting additions we've made to Ka-Blam in some time. We're really encouraged by the feedback we've received thus far (and look forward to receiving even more). We'll be adding even more features to it in the coming days (which is why we're still calling it "beta" -- even though it's fully functional now). The Message Center will both improve our customer service efforts and our work efficiency significantly. Please give it a test drive and let us know what you think.

The Queue No More
As some of you have noticed The Visible Queue is no more. This is not an accident, but rather by design. The Visible Queue was an integral part of our initial launch (dare I say a pioneering concept) and it served us well for a while. But as our orders and order volume has dramatically increased in our two plus years of operation and as we've modified our way of doing things to accommodate that increase the importance of the Queue has decreased to the point that it was really nothing more than an artifact from days gone by. All of the customer side Queue information (and much, much more) is now available -- and even more accessible -- in your My Info section. Our administrative Queue is still the absolute centerpiece of our work process and I can't imagine that changing, but The Visible Queue (the customer side Queue) is no more. We'll be scrubbing references to it from the site over the next week or two. Please bear with us and feel free to point out any lingering references you might uncover.

Double Page Spreads and Wrap Around Covers
Just a quick note regarding double page spreads and wraparound covers as we are seeing a lot of these lately and, unfortunately, seeing most of them done incorrectly. All double page spreads (this includes wraparound covers) should be sent as ONE seamless file. Please, please, please do NOT split your double page spreads into two separate files. For standard-sized comics the dimensions of a double spread file should be 13.5 inches wide by 10.5 inches high. For digest (or manga) sized comics the dimensions should be 10.5 inches wide by 7.75 inches high.

Technical Status Update
Both machines are running relatively well right now. There are no major quality issues to speak of though we are still having to work around the problems I mentioned last week regarding the hardware replacement in the print servers. It's not a major problem by any stretch. As I mentioned we can work around it. It's just an annoyance and causes production to run just bit slower than optimal. Work arounds are in place on both presses, though Kyle seems to be experiencing the issue a bit more acutely than does Stan.

Crop Marks
Here's something that we're seeing of late that we should NOT be seeing in your files ... crop marks. FYI everyone ... we add the crop marks during the creation of the printable files. Crop marks should NEVER be visible in the artwork of the files that you send to us. So please ... leave the crop marks to us. If you need guidelines in positioning page elements then we'd recommend that you use photoshop guides or (better yet) download our page template. (And speaking of the page template ... please be sure that you delete the template before uploading your files for us and NEVER flatten the template onto the files. The files are UNUSABLE if the template is superimposed and flattened on to them.)
